Tertnes 99 Blå, the football team my son is a part of, just attended the football tournament FotballCup24 in Vestlandshallen, Åsane in Bergen.
As always a great experience, and this time I had the opportunity to bring my svelte Canon EOS 5D Mark II to play with as well. After filming for a while, and adding quite a few sounds and transitions using Apple iMovie ’09, I decided I had a product I could show to the little ones :-).

Finally, after a few days of mirror syncing and documentation preparation, The FreeBSD Release Engineering (RELENG) Team finally decided to announce the availability of FreeBSD 8.0!
The source code for 8.0 was got it’s final touches during the weekend, and on Sunday I had the oportunity to upgrade my server to the latest and greatest. After some upgrade jiffies conserning migration and upgrade of my experimental ZFS filesystem setup, everything seems to work without a hitch.
The only notable showstopper I know about this far is the breakage of the fxp network interface driver, which was not ready in time for release. This will probably be fixed within a week or two, I assume.
It’s a relief to have upgraded to ZFS v13, by the way. Finally I can start trusting my now nearly 3TB striped storage setup :-).

From time to time the issue of how to handle the drug problem springs up in national media here in Norway. Questions like whether we should hand out drugs to addicted, whether to provide indoor organized guidance and equipment for the addicted, or the possibility of legalization of certain drugs pops up about every second year. We hear terrible stories of what the users have to cope with on a daily basis just to survive – just to get enough money for the next shot. After a while, however, the media’s attention turns. They become tired of the issue, and move on to the next hot topic, normally something involving celebrities or sex, preferrably combined. Everyone forgets about the drug victims, and nothing happens.
Forskning.no, a Norwegian website publishing new local and international science research recently had an article about how many drug-related deaths Norway has had the last ten years. I nearly fell off my chair when I read the article.
Several times this nasty bug has bitten me, and I assume I’m not the only one :-).
Are you having problems with IntelliJ IDEA refusing to authenticate you while trying to use SVN (TortoiseSVN)? You have even tried to clear the authentication cache and all other logs?
… I had fun nonetheless!
I just purchased a MIDI keyboard (since I’ve long thought of trying to learn myself to play the piano), hooked it up to my Mac (now, that was easy!) and started taking a few piano lessons with GarageBand, a very nice little program accompanying iLife ’09. The keyboard is a sweet little Roland Keyboard named Edirol PC-50, and has so far lived up to the expectations from the salesman at the 4Sound.no music store in downtown Bergen.

Stortinget har ikkje ynskt å ha datalagringsdirektivet som ei eiga separat sak, noko FrP har kjempa imot. No er Venstre også godt i gang med å starte ei kampanje mot denne loven.

I’ve just amended my WordPress CSS style sheet somewhat to now use a font normally not installed on your computer. This is accomplished by using the @font-face CSS tag, described in detail over at hacks.mozilla.org. I’m now using the font GrauBlau Sans Web from the nice people over at fonts.info, and I think it fits rather well. Gone are the serif-days at least :-). Hope you like it as well!

Since I’m preparing for a EuroVision Song Contest party for my kid and some friends of his, I decided to make it somewhat more fact-based with bits of trivia per country, including some quizzes we can use during the event.
I also wanted to print out all the flags for the participating countries, and what better source can there be en Wikipedia for this? I converted them from SVG to PNG and uploaded them to Flickr. Embedded slideshow follows below:
